Strange Happenings & The Red Herrings – two of the most successful and innovative Murder Mystery companies in the country – are now able to offer a specially adapted version of one of their two handed murder mysteries for performance in schools.
Suitable for pupils 13+ and for class/audience numbers up to 60 in informal seating and 100 in formal seating - the murder mystery format can be a useful stimulus to creative writing, speaking and listening skills, logical thinking, analysis, problem solving and team working.
The audience are presented with a mystery “Caveat Emptor – Buyer Beware!“ which they watch unfold scene by scene as the two actors play all the parts – men & women, goodies & baddies, victims & villains.
The audience – in teams of collective detectives – then examine evidence before questioning the suspects. They then make their accusations and the team whose analysis comes closest to that of Inspector Herring and Sergeant Kipper are awarded Detective First Class certificates.
The mystery can be performed in an informal situation where the audience are seated cabaret style at tables or it can be done in a slightly more formal way with the audience seated as if watching a more conventional play. A school drama hall or small hall is ideal, but it can be performed in a large classroom.
Supported by a follow-up pack with ideas for creative writing ,drama, problem solving and a suggested reading list.
